Philosophy is the study of existence from the broadest possible perspective. While other sciences study certain aspects of things, or certain types of things, philosophy concerns itself with the widest possible abstractions.
Philosophy asks questions like: Is all that we observe real or a figment of the imagination? How do we know this one way or the other? How should we act?
Objectivism divides into five distinct branches:
- Metaphysics questions what the nature of reality is
- Epistemology examines how knowledge is gained and interpreted
- Ethics asks how one should act
- Politics looks at the proper interaction among people
- Esthetics attempts to define beauty
